چکیده

From the sixties a deep and surprising connection has followed development of superconductivity quantum field theory. The Anderson-Higgs mechanism similarities between Dirac Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations are most intriguing examples. In this last analogy, massive particle is identified with quasiparticle excitation fermion mass energy superconducting gap energy. Here we follow further parallelism show that it predicts an outstanding phenomenon: Schwinger effect (SSE). As in electrodynamics effect, where electron-positron couple created from vacuum by intense electric field, electrostatic can generate two coherent excitations ground-state condensate. Differently dissipative thermal excitation, these form new macroscopically dissipationless state. We discuss how state weakened creation kind excitations. addition to shed different light suggest method for experimental verification our results pave way understanding exploitation interaction superconductors fields.

Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer theory of finite-size superconducting metallic grains.

We study finite-size effects in superconducting metallic grains and determine the BCS order parameter and the low energy excitation spectrum in terms of the size and shape of the grain. Our approach combines the BCS self-consistency condition, a semiclassical expansion for the spectral density and interaction matrix elements, and corrections to the BCS mean field. In chaotic grains mesoscopic f...

Functional renormalization for the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer to Bose-Einstein condensation crossover.

We review the functional renormalization group (RG) approach to the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer to Bose-Einstein condensation (BCS-BEC) crossover for an ultracold gas of fermionic atoms. Formulated in terms of a scale-dependent effective action, the functional RG interpolates continuously between the atomic or molecular microphysics and the macroscopic physics on large length scales. We concentra...

Spin-flip lifetimes in superconducting atom chips: Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer versus Eliashberg theory

We investigate theoretically the magnetic spin-flip transitions of neutral atoms trapped near a superconducting slab. Our calculations are based on a quantum-theoretical treatment of electromagnetic radiation near dielectric and metallic bodies. Specific results are given for rubidium atoms near a niobium superconductor. At the low frequencies typical of atomic transitions, we find that BCS the...
